Recreational Policy
Explore the answers to common questions about Coverdrone’s recreational policies.
What Does The Recreational Drone Policy Cover?
Our recreational drone insurance is designed for hobbyist pilots who want peace of mind while flying for fun. The policy typically includes public liability cover (in case your drone accidentally causes damage or injury), as well as optional cover for your drone and related equipment in case of accidental damage, loss or theft. For a full list of what is covered, please visit our products page.
Why Do I Need to Register?
The registration is free and it creates your Coverdrone account so that you can log back in later to choose a period of cover.
Am I A Commercial Or Recreational Operator?
In general, aviation authorities have worked to the following guidelines, and these are the guidelines on which we have built our policies:
Commercial – our commercial policy allows you to use your drone and equipment for paid or unpaid work, whether that payment is direct or indirect. It is also compliant with EC785/2004 and issue Aviation Liabilities in addition to Public Liability (if this cover is selected).
Recreational – for “sport or recreational” purposes only. A recreational flight would NOT include paid or unpaid work whether that is direct or indirect (such as imagery being used on another organisation’s website or social media).
What Permissions Or Qualifications Do I Need To Be Covered?
As long as you are flying within the rules and regulations and have any relevant permissions/qualifications/licences that are required then our policy will cover you. To find out more, we recommend that you contact your local aviation authority or training centre to find out what you need to fly.

Your policy remains in full force until the expiry date, irrespective of whether or not you have made a claim. If you’ve had replacement equipment as part of your claim, you will need to add the details of your new equipment to your policy to ensure you are still covered. You can do this by updating the equipment details in your Online Account.
Once you have made a claim against your policy you will not be able to cancel and obtain a pro-rata refund.
