It’s here.
DJI’s long-awaited Mini 5 Pro has landed, and the buzz in the drone community is huge.
We even gave one away at DroneX 2025, and it’s easy to see why so many pilots are excited. The Mini 5 Pro packs incredible technology into a compact design, but there’s one detail that’s causing a lot of discussion: its weight.
Why the Weight Matters
DJI lists the Mini 5 Pro’s weight as 249.9 grams, with a tolerance of ± 4 grams. In practice, this means that one aircraft might weigh slightly under 250 g, while another could tip just over. That matters because 250 g is an important threshold under many aviation authorities’ regulations worldwide.
If your drone weighs more than 250 g, you may be required to register differently or hold additional certifications before flying.
Coverdrone’s Position
From an insurance perspective, this isn’t an issue.
At Coverdrone, we’re happy to insure your Mini 5 Pro whether it weighs 245g or 254g.
What does matter is that you, as the operator, are flying legally. Our policies simply require that any flight is compliant with your region’s aviation laws and licensing requirements.
In other words:
- If your drone is slightly under 250 g — you’re fine to fly as normal (subject to your local rules).
- If your particular aircraft happens to weigh slightly over 250 g, you may need a different qualification or registration.
Either way, your insurance remains valid as long as your flight is legal.
Where to Check for the Latest Rules
Every country’s aviation authority has its own framework, so if you’re unsure whether your Mini 5 Pro falls under a specific category, check directly with your national regulator or an approved training provider:
- United Kingdom – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
- European Union – European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
- Canada – Transport Canada
- Australia – Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)
- New Zealand – Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA NZ)
They will be able to confirm exactly what applies to your aircraft and flying location.
In Summary
The DJI Mini 5 Pro continues the Mini series’ incredible legacy — lightweight, powerful, and packed with professional-grade capability. Just remember that while Coverdrone covers you, it’s your responsibility to stay compliant with the relevant aviation laws in your region.
Fly safe, enjoy your new Mini 5 Pro – and as always, if you’d like to discuss your insurance options, we’re here to help.
